Die-beat-this

It's a pretty normal sight to see me sitting with a bunch of lads in a ungodly our at night sipping down a teh ais kurang kurang kurang manis!!! somewhere in KL or in the sad town of Seremban. After so many years of lepaking there, it didn't come to my senses that every person seated around me had a high chance in getting diabetes mellitus due to the food served in that place. Mamaks are for sure creating a diabetic pandemic in Malaysia. Interesting innit? So what in the freagin world is diabetes mellitus?? For the people who are not stuck learning about stuff and serving in a hospital like me... It's better known as Kencing manis. Not sure if they actually quantify as 'Sweet urine'. Definitely something i wouldn't wanna taste...urghh...yucks. In actual fact, the docs of the past used to taste urine when dipsticks weren't in existence yet. Wunder where they got the guts to that.

So why so scared of diabetes lah?? Wait wait... i know u all want to defend the botak head mamak at Old Klang Road. You see, the problem about diabetes is... it's kinda silent lah. You don't really know you have it until some day when you start to feel tired, urine like mad till you feel super dehydrated and feel super thirsty. You might brush it of as some small matter but wait... later on as the years pass, you might start to feel your limbs getting numb and there may be loadsa episodes of pins and needles. You may even feel as if you are walking on cotton. Oooo...how euphoric... NOT!! after that, ulcers may develop on your feet. When that happens, gangrene may develop and then..sob sob..have to cut the leg. Sighs. Worse still, later you may get high blood pressure and later develop a stroke or heart attack. Bad shape dude. Bad shape. So how?? Still want to go mamak everyday or not?? Hehe.
No worries la, can still go mamak but in moderation la. Once in a while still ok. Try not to tani day in day out. Bad shape la, summore make that mamak feller richer by the day.

Diabetic foot ulcer

Cataract in the eye of a diabetic patient

Why i suddenly talk about diabetes mellitus? Think i dun really have a choice la. Everyday, when i enter the wards or the outpatient clinic, the most common thing case i see is a diabetic case. It's really sad to see people lose their limbs, experience blurred vision or be on lifetime treatment for diabetes. Just imagine injecting yourself with insulin for the rest of your life. It's just bad shape. Not something i wanna see my friends or anyone end up doing. So less mamak, more Futsal! So far, Mr. Lim Hiong Chin a.k.a. Wayne Lim has successfully done it. If a guy like him can do it, anyone can.

As for Mr. Lim Hiong Chin, a snake went into his room 2 days back. Wunder why?? Maybe the snake wanted to watch some porn and got stuck in the air conditioning vent. Bet there's got loadsa porn in there. Hehe. Just jokin. Funny lad.

Aights... so less mamak and teh ais for me now. Back to studyin. Adios!

Life is Beautiful

Today's been a really good day. Probably the best day i've ever had this entire year. A there was definitely a feeling of deja vu in the air. Something i wished could go on and on for a very long time. Things just seem to fit into place. Something i've missed for a very very long time.

The day started with a really great message by Altered Frequency's lead singer... Andy Yeoh at YC. It pretty much summed up what i've been needing all this while. The word : Inspiration. It's been quite a while since i've been inspired to do anything let alone the crazy stuff i used to do. The story of how a band like Altered Frequency started really speaks volumes. Though it may kinda sound too idealistic, anything inspired by God is never too idealistic. That's something i pretty much believe. All in all, one just needs to let go and let God do the work that will result in something great in one's life. I hope that happens to me. Hehe...

I can still remember those days when i used to be a lost lad in college. With pretty much no direction and just leading a life of a typical goblok, i found someone who taught me what living a life of meaning and purpose for God is really all about. Aside from being a great mentor and a 'brother' i can depend on, somehow this feller is always seen as my 'twin' for reasons i shall not go into. Hehe. This guy also inspired me to get a Kelisa. Crazy innit?? Haha. It was great having him as one part of the 'banker's lunch triad' which includes Keng Lee during our days working at 'rival' banks at the Masjid Jamek Banking District downtown in KL. The 'mee goreng lambat' sessions were classic moments to savour. Us lads could go on and on bragging about how crappy our respective banks were at the lunch table. Something i kinda miss. Haha. The guitar jamming sessions at Woh Fatt were also something great especially we lads poked jokes at 'Elvis'. On Thursdays, we would fast and pray. On Fridays and Sundays., it was all out service for God. Life was just super good. All that changed when this 'brother' of mine left for the land of the Kangaroos. Suddenly life was just different. It's been quite a while since he left. So who is this guy lah?? There's only one boss who fits the bill... Mark Tan Eng Meng. Hahaha. It was just great to see him once again back here in KL. Just wished he were stuck here for good. unfortunately he's here for just a month before moving to the land of the 'Kiasu people'. I guess that ain't too bad actually, it's an incentive to make trips down there. Woohoo!! Can't stop dreaming about guitar effect pedals and Turntables you can get at Singapore. Haha. Either way, just great to have good old Mark Tan back in YC. It was great to meet people like Hawc, Belle and Isaac too. Really reminds me of the IBNOT World times. haha. It's YC that rocks now dude. Hehe.

Marko the Emo...Haha

A last minute game of futsal was a great way to cap of a good day. Only drawback is the recurrence of an old knee injury. Arghh... Hope it gets well soon. Wanna play at the futsal reunion game soon. Hehe.

Aights... time to hit the sack. Cheers!

Wunder-fool

Aights, it's Saturday and another week has just flown by just like that. A week has 7 days and coming to think of it, that's a pretty short time. In just a blink of an eye, things just change and at times you are just caught unaware of the things that are revolving. Reflecting on the week, it's been more like a rollercoaster ride. Loadsa highs and lows. At times, you just wonder if life is meant to be like that.

Speaking to patients everyday gives me a new perspective into how much we should treasure our health and the things we have. Though patients come in with different presenting complaints and illnesses, underlying each of their clinical conditions is some problem which might or might not be related to their disease. Many patients speak of loss of loved ones, financial problems, family problems and other problems which really open my eyes to see that medicine is not just about treating the disease but treating the patient as a whole. As medical students and future docs, all we can do is to listen and encourage these patients as healing will ultimately come from God. Observing these things also make you wonder why God allows them to happen. At the end of it all, God has a reason for everything and in due time we just hope to understand why things and events take place. I speak for myself as well in hope that i'll know why things are the way they are.

Aside from medical jargons and terminology... The much anticipated showdown between two great football clubs took place: The Champions League Final between Barca and Aresenal. I have to admit that staying up for the match was well worth it cos Barca won. Hehe. No secret that was supporting Barca for this match. I've gotta give credit to Arsenal for the great game. Kinda pity them cos they got their first choice keeper sent off so early in the game. I think they shouldn't worry too much. They young Gunner's are gonna be a great team with Francesc Fabregas in there. I've gotta say that it wasn't Ronaldinho or Henry that caught my eye but it was Iniesta and Larsson that were the game changers. Those 2 fellers really gave Arsenal a beating. Either way, gotta give both teams credit for an entertaining game.

Viva la Barcelona!

Football was great but a movie like the Da Vinci code was kinda crap. It was an ok adaptation of he novel but a pure deceiving tool used to corrupt the minds of people about the Lord Jesus Christ. The movie was also quite draggy to the point that even half the cinema were snoring. I guess many people didn't even understand what was going on with all the jargons and terminology used in the show. Even Soon Liang and Hiong Chin slept. Wouldn't actually blame those 2 fellers as we watched the movie at midnight as we couldn't get any tickets for an earlier show. Either way, I bet even the Malay lads like Ilham were bored to wits as he was already snoring halfway into the show. The only plus point to the show was the nice buildings and the actress who wasn't too bad. :P

Alrighty... looking forward to another week of surprises and of course Convo. Cheers!!

2 are better than 1

Aights, i'm into week 3 of family med now. I pretty much think that everything has been really WEIRD since this posting started. Firstly, the lecturers are definitely a bunch of weirdos. Here we have a doc who teaches us to be 'professional' in the approach of things whilst another doc tells us to be 'casual'. Family med physicians always think they are the best of the best in the medical world. They seem to criticise every other medical faculty except their own. I wouldn't blame them but i seriously think they shouldn't do it out in the open. They also seem to have a habit of calling people weird names.... here's an extensive list of names we lads have come to terms with :P :

Shiva is now known as Ganesh
Prashanth is now known as Perasaan
Jenson is now known as Prof (Minus the M cos its not professional :p)
Yen shi is now known as Squirrel
Chew yee is now known as Rabbit
Hiang Liang is now known as Group leader Tan
Soon Liang is now known as Ah Lee
Jeremy is now known as Joseph
Zakiah is now known as Zaki
Ahmad is now known as Muhammad
Muhammad is now known as Ahmad
Hiong Chin is now known as Hiong
I've got an interesting one too.... i'm now known as Steven

What in this crazy world makes these docs like that?? I really dunno. Do i really bear resemblance to Steven?? According to Hiang Liang, if Dr. Loh forgets your name, he'll just call you Steven. Somehow the name sticks in his head. With all the knowledge in their ultra powered head which they use to criticise oter docs, they can't even remember simple names. Jokers.... they probably think having 2 names are better than 1.

Family Med in Seremban. Seeing is believing. Experience it for yourself first hand. :P

Adios.

Forgranted

I was reading some stuff about how we should learn to count our blessings. I guess what that article stated really made sense. I've proabably been so blur that i never knew how complacent i've been that i've actually lost everything that i once use to have. That really led me to ponder on about taking things forgranted.

It's been a few months since something really significant happened in my life. Ever since then, i've learned a lot and reflected on how things have changed. Suddenly emptiness just sinks in. Sometimes you are so blessed with all that is around you that really don't know what you have until it is lost. I miss all the great moments and things i shared with close ones who are no longer here. It finally sinks in when I think back at how unappreciative i was when i had everything in my grasp. It was rather unwise to blame others on my losses when i was probably the only one to have caused damage to myself. To have all the success and money in the world will never permit me to get back what i've let slip through my hands. I can only wish I was more thankful for what i had and that someday i'll get back what i've lost.

As a human who believes there is a God, i ask Him why things happen at times. I guess He has His reasons. Lesson for the day, count your blessings and never take things forgranted. Appreciate those you love and all that you have before it's gone.

In reflection @ Seremban.... where life has just been undescribable

Dumbo

Once upon a time, i lived in a world where i was thought by my teacher that by studying and working hard you will be successful in what you do. With a little more effort and diligence you will probably make it to the top of your class and be one of the whizz-kids. I wished i was one of those lads. So since i wasn't one of the geeks who worked that hard, I tried to be one but only succeeded by getting 2/3rd of the job done. At least, i didn't turn out to be a nerd or geek. Similiarly in medic school, i thought that those rules would apply. Usually hard-work, smart studying and diligence would more or less equate to a good pass in an exam. Apparently that's pretty wrong, all that stuff will give you nuts. If you wanna do really well, all you need to do is suck-up big time with your lecturers and hope that a little luck is on your side. Whoa, that's radical. Bottomline is... i'm just really dumbfounded by how unfair an exam can be. Eureka! (with sarcasm)

Pissed and rather dumbstruck.

Fill Me In

I can't really recall what i was doing at that particular moment 18 years ago. I was probably sitting at the corridor of a hospital wondering why i had to wake up so early for no apparent reason. Back then, i was a rather lost lad at the age of 5. The only thing on my mind was SLEEP. I think it was quite apparent that after waiting for a few hours, it was pretty much worth the wait. I finally met my much anticipated brother for the first time in my life, none other than the future pharmacist a.k.a Nigel Looi. :P

Yeah, it's been a crazy journey so far with this crazy feller. Lotsa fights, crunching tackles, mamak and jamming sessions. Won't forget what kinda crazy stuff he could do with my turntables. Awesome as usual. If he ain't my bro, he would probably have been my best friend. Great memories

Just taking this oppurtunity to wish him a very Happy and Blessed 18th Birthday and May God bless Him loads!

Cheers Bro, Rock on for Christ!
