Clinical Christmas

The lecture theatre at the clinical school isn't usually associated with vibrancy unless it's some major event where it's all decorated with expensive state of the art bling bling and lighting. All of this of course comes with the funding of the SRC and etc. I guess with a God of wonders, a united Christian Fellowship, a group of docs, all of that is unnecessary.

Yup, that's PEACE alright. I think it's the theme for the Christmas celebration that we held at IMU Seremban just last Thursday. It's got to be the craziest celebration i've had in uni life so far. With the crazy studying schedule, less than 4 practice sessions within 3 days and a day to set up the stage, everything was set to run. It definitely sounded impossible but with God, everything was made possible.

The props on the stage cost less than RM 30 i think. The freagin huge branch on the left of the stage was tied to the top of Hiang Liang's car all the way from Seremban 2. Mad people. To add to the insanity, the twigs collected were all from the roadside outside Steven's house. The lighting was done using STUDY LAMPS!!! contributed by us lads and a few funky lights courtesy of the stage designer a.k.a. Jill Ho. The other items put on stage were all recycled boxes from the store room or shoe boxes that we had. To make things even crazier, the Christmas tree contributed by Hiang Liang costs a mind-boggling RM 5. Wicked stuff.

All the glory be unto God as everything gelled into place without complications. A wonderful choir led by the chief surgeon himself a.k.a. Mr. Paul, a simple but profound message by Prof Richard and great MC-ing by Dr. Aaron Hiew and Siew Lian just made the celebration spectacular. Definitely something to look forward to in the near future, Easter perhaps.

Hopefully i can put up more pics soon. Back to work now. Blessed Christmas !!!

9 feet underground

Stars twinkle as the wind blows,
I'm still gazing at the dark sky,
Eight wonderful crescents were in sight,
Yet nine have i missed,

As the clouds moved,
The stars twinkled no more,
In a blink of an eye,
I'm lost in the dark vortex of the night,

Patience was all i needed,
Yet a dose of insanity was in the air,
The beautiful portrait was in my hands,
Destroyed by just a stroke of a brush,

I still regret the stupidity of that moment,
I still can't understand why,
Will I forgive myself,
I still don't know how,

I still wish the stars will twinkle again,
Will that ever happen,
I know i've learned to wait,
Till that day arrives,
I still hope it's not too late.

drowning

It's way past midnight and i have no idea why the heck am i still pushing myself to read when i know i'm dead tired and my mind just wants to have a rest. Everything seems so silent around me. There's no doubt that the exams are drawing nearer by the hour but i still think it's reasonable just to get a few hours of quality sleep. I'm beginning to wonder how much more pressure am i able to take considering the point where i've reached now is kinda insane.

Life's all about performance and how driven you are to achieve the ultimate standard of excellence. If you suck, you get discarded. It's as simple as that. I guess i've learned to live with that. It's just sad how a life based on this concept is. The only way to gain acceptance and a chance at something is to be someone with credentials. It just makes me wonder how good will i have to be to get that sorta recognition. I'm still trying to understand how good docs are made. There are some really altruistic docs out there but there's got to be something that makes them stand out among the rest like an islet of red in a sea of white.

As the desire to achieve perfection constantly brews, mistakes are bound to occur with the impending stress which builds up everyday. As a result if that, i myself have made countless mistakes and so have others on the same journey as myself. I've always been a believer of second chances just as God gave me a second chance. Be it a first chance of a second one, i don't think it really matters. What i can't seem to understand is why can't people even give a chance to someone when there's always potential for someone to succeed in something. Maybe i'm just freagin pissed with the way i played football today or maybe it's just something else.

As i stare at the clock and watch it tick, i'm just thinking how much patience is there left in me. How many more pascals of pressure can i absorb per square inch of my body. I've always been a crazy feller who waits as if i know a cure for a chronic disease will surely be found. Kinda like a pathological patience in some sense. Yeah, patience is a virtue but how virtuous can it be when it comes with the thought of you drowning deeper into an ocean where pressure and stress just builds up by the day. Only God knows and may I find rest and solace in Him.

twentythree

It was already 1155pm. Since i live in a rather god-forsaken area in Seremban, the entire housing area was eerily quiet as usual. When it's that quiet, it's a good idea to just go thru your books as everything seems so much clearer and understandable. After going thru a chapter on bleeding disorders, my head was just thinking about blood, blood and only blood. With bats flying outside the house, it kinda sounds like some vampire movie. With my 2 housemates literally 'half-dead' after a gruelling day in the obstetric and gynaecological ward, it was dead silent. Before i could even turn to the next page on my book. Kaboom!!.. Some freagin loud explosion cancelled out the silence and sorta woke everyone up in the neighbourhood. For a moment, i thought Hiang Liang's amp went bust cos he probably forgot to turn it off after doing some bass drills. Suddenly, the sound of doors opening quickly as if there was panic in the atmosphere resounded upstairs. I was still wondering what the entire commotion was about upstairs. To add to the weirdness of the atmospere, there were sounds of kids singing. When i turned my head towards the stairs, i saw 2 topless lads carying a candle and a bag down. As blur as I was, i was still trying to figure out what these 2 lads were up to. Obviously they weren't on their way to the kitchen for their usual late nite maggi noodle escapades. I just gotta say that these 2 lads are the best housemates in the world. I'm just kinda dumbstruck as to how they managed to con me so easily. They told me they needed sleep but instead were inside their rooms plotting to surprise me on my 23rd birthday. It was one crazy plot but one of the best i've had or probably the best i've had since i hardly celebrate my birthday. Great stuff. Thanx to Hiang Liang and Dawson!!!

After getting that rather rude awakening from my 2 mad housemates, I woke up to the fact that i've already lived on this planet for 23 freagin years. Yup, 23 years... which is pretty short actually. I just wonder if i've been a good steward of the time i've had on earth so far. Hopefully i have, afterall, it's almost a third of a human's lifespan based on the current life-expectancy rates. I just hope i'll be able to fulfil God's plan for my life.

So far i've only gone to the point where i'm still stuck in Med school trying to grasp what medicine is all about. In the next few years, it'll be about taking time to be a vessel for God's use in hope that people may have better health. Besides academics and working life, there's just so many more factors to consider. Of course there's church and social life. I just hope i would have time to serve in church in the near future. I do realise that as the day of housemanship draws nearer, time for me to serve is becoming less and less to my dismay. I really enjoyed the days when i used to be able to call up my cg members to just ask how they were doing. Just serving each cg member was a special experience. I guess i just miss those times.

As of social life. Well, i seriously think i need to get a life. After starting clinical school, i've been pretty much ingrossed in what i do to the point where i hardly bother to socialise. At the moment, my only new friends are patients are meet everyday. It sounds kinda sad in some ways. To make things even 'happier' i'm usually stuck in the presence of guys which doesn't sound to right. Really no life man. Sometimes it gets kinda worrisome as i don't think i was like that before. And yes, i'm still single to the lads who have been asking me over and over again. Have I found someone yet? Seriously no idea dude. Am I going to find someone? Well... obviously the answer is yes but i dunno when. In God's timing. Just gonna keep my fingers crossed and be patient. Kinda distressing to think about social issues i guess. It's worse than doing a performing a per rectal examination in some sense. Yikes.

As for hopes i have so far, all i want to do now is to pass my freagin SEM 7 Exam!!!God-willing, He will give me the strength to do it. As for progress now, it's moving but at times sluggish. Either way, i just gotta be positive and trust in Him as He has always seen my thru the many circumstances i've faced. As for this year, i just hope it will be a good one. Definitely want to forget about the last one. No doubt about that.

Guess it's back to work. Adios!!
