Sunday, March 18, 2007 Red Tide As humans, we're blessed with the gift of sight to appreciate the wonderful mixture of colours that surrounds us. There's only one person to thank for giving us rods and cones in our retina that allow us to decipher these wonderful colours around us and that's definitely the boss up there. As many colours that there may be, this weekend, only one colour stands out more than any other colour, and that colour is Red. Red is pretty symbolic in many ways. It's the colour that people most often associate with love, some grotesque scene, blood, roses and many other things. This weekend it only symbolizes the return of Ferrari in the new season of F1 and the relentless march of Man Utd. Things couldn't have been better with Man Utd whipping Bolton by 4 goals to 1. With the red hot duo of Ronaldo and Rooney playing like ah longs going after those who owe them money, Bolton were just literally shredded to bits. Absolutely wicked stuff. The highlight of the weekend has absolutely got to be Kimi Raikonnen's debut for Ferrari this season. It wasn't too long ago that some feller told me that this feller was a lousy driver while he was still with Sauber Petronas. On the contrary, i told that feller that Raikonnen was a mad driver with his aggressive style and would bet that he would make the grade for Ferrari someday. True enough, it's been a few years since that arguement took place and this Finnish road maniac is finally in Ferrari. Makes me wonder if i should have bet with that feller. Sighs. Anyways, congrats to Kimi on his first victory for Ferrari. The way he pushed the car was crazy but i guess Ferrari finally built a prancing horse worthy to be tortured by this mad Finn. As for the week ahead, man is it going to be hectic. Hopefully figures don't go red and throw me into boiling point. Firstly, it's the beginning of ENT which i know will be busy for sure. Secondly, i'm gonna have to play in a futsal league against my own will again!! For 4 weeks!! With no incentive!! Arghh!! How frustrating can that be? Time and time again, i've tried to avoid getting myself into any sort of competitive futsal/football event in fear that i may get injured again thanks to my rather 'you asked for it!!' on court antics. Strangely, this time i can't pull out due to the fact that some 'brilliant' guy registered me and a few other lads in a team to play in a league without formally informing us. Hopefully i won't taunt anyone to whack me to the ground again this time as i've always done. In other words, no more crazy tricks or dribbling for me. I wish i could go back to those old days when i was just known as 'Waterboy' and just be a kaki bangku talking to the tambi who sells ice cream by the field. Maybe i should just bring my water bottle to the game and just sit down and dream. Memories..... man. Aight aight, time to get back to work before i get a RED card for slacking again. Cheers! Friday, March 09, 2007 Face value It's the first week of semester 8 and all the myths about a 'holiday' semester lingers in the air just before you start it. It seems that we were all given the impression that it's gonna be one happy and relaxing 6 months. Unfortunately, i guess what i suspected seems to be true. It's actually one heck of a busy semester. To begin with, i'm stuck with the dermatologists for the first 2 weeks. So far it ain't that bad. It's pretty fun actually and the dermatologists are pretty nice people. Their job pretty much revolved around treating acne, psoariasis and eczematous conditions which is pretty simple. I always pictured dermatologists to be women who like helping people to have a good appearance just like their own. Strangely, so far, i've been hanging around 3 dermatologists who are guys. These lads kinda rock in some sense. The 'flowery' language they use is also 'eye opening' at times. Each doc calls the other doc 'macha'. That's wicked. While waiting for the doc to arrive at his clinic today, i started looking at the patients in the waiting area. It's quite obvious that most patients come to the dermato clinic to fix some problem involving their skin which most oftenly involves the face. Speaking of the face, that gives an individual an appearance which can be used to describe pretty much what kind of person the individual is. Patients with numerous scars sometimes give us an idea of a rough, tough ah beng who has been involved in numerous fights when all the scars where actually due to acne. Besides skin lesions, the features of one's face give the observer an idea of the ethnicity of the patient. Ever since i was a small lad, i've been asking myself why some people say i look like this or look like that. It's quite obvious that i look like myself and no-one else. Else than being proudly accepted as a bonafide Chinese, so far, weirdly enough, i've been told that i look like a Chindian, Malay and Portuguese which is seriously weird. Can't people see an authentic Chinaman?? Today's comment was the ultimate. Some feller i've known for the past 4 years told me he always thought i was someone of Caucasian descent. I think that lad needs to wash his eyes with optrex 1000X so he can see properly. Dude, i pure CHINA man. Caucasian got blonde hair, i got black one. Causcasian got blue or green eyes and i have brown ones. I think he need to buy specs and watch more Chinese dramas to learn to recognise a Chinaman. It's weird considering the china species is the most common species on the globe. Well, another week of skin skin skin till i move on to ENT. Listen, Sniff and Swallow !! Adios aight! Saturday, March 03, 2007 Battle Royale Football matches have been known to precipitate myocardial infarction a.k.a heart attacks thanks to crazy outcomes from matches. Based on the number of cases, it seems South American gobloks are the most likely victims of this syndrome. As of Chinamen, so far no cases have been reported, so that's encouraging. Not one for the faint hearted for sure, but matches between teams like Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have always been mad with some of the craziest outcomes. Teams may play scintillating football but still result in a loss. That's football for you. Just got back after watching one of the craziest matches i've watched this year (Not that i've watched many actually). It's gotta be this weekend's match of the week between Man Utd and Liverpool. After watching the first half, i thought it was probably fair to say that a draw for both teams would be a justified result but after watching 40 minutes of the second half, i seriously thought Man Utd deserved to lose though i'm a hard-core Man Utd fan. They were totally bombarded from all areas of the pitch with no chance of gaining possesion of the ball. But credit to Man Utd. They persevered and once again miraculously won thanks to sheer resilience, a never say die attitude and a certain John O'Shea. A great gift to Giggsy who played his 700th match for Man Utd for sure. I guess it's this kinda attitude that will make a team champions eventually (Hopefully). As the Premiership inches closer to the end, it's the beginning of a new season here. Yup, it's finally semester 8. Time to wake up after 2 weeks of starving myself from my medic books. Gonna be learning loadsa new things. Hopefully that never say die attitude gets stuck inside my head. Definitely looking forward to the Electives in Cambodia with Jeremy and Shaggy. Contrary to what some lecturer has suggested, WE ARE NOT GOING THERE TO PLANT LAND MINES! and hopefully we don't encounter them either! I've gotta say that that particular lecturer as some sorta fettish for violent stuff. Weird. As for Selectives, hopefully it will be a great time doing research in some field of Orthopaedics again. Great stuff for sure. As for minor postings, here I come! |
