Red Sea

It's the time of the year where everything looks great. Kids dressed in scarlet red clothes run around with their sparklers at night having innocent fun while their grannies enjoy a game of old school mahjong. The men gather round the table to talk about what has been a great previous year and speak of their aspirations for the year ahead while the women have fun creating specialty dishes to savour during such an auspicious time of the year. Us lads sit around a small table and have a game of poker or 21 while dicussing the 'intellectual' issues that are hovering in the headlines for the past few days or two. In the day, families drop by to visit and strengthen old bonds. It just seems blissful and utopic. A typical picture of how the Chinese New Year is celebrated in my hometown. Ramblings on CNY are next...

Finger food... Cookies are always great to have when guests come over to visit. Something that people can munch on and enjoy while having a great cup of coffee. What i never really put into thought was the effort that was put into making that great jar of cookies. It's a pretty tedious effort if it's a home-made jar of cookies. Pre-CNY season has always been a hectic time for me and my mum. Baking cookies are definitely fun but when you've got a whole list of orders to fulfil, it can become a heavy chore. It was definitely a whole new experience this time round with a rather crazy amount of orders for various kinds of cookies. At the end of it all, my arms and legs were sore. It was as if i had just ran a marathon without stopping for a day. A worthwhile experience for sure. Something i'll remember hopefully when i graduate as a surgeon someday. At least i've baked cookies before. Sounds weird. :P

The journey home...Traffic was horrendous as usual. A trip that would usually take 2 hours lasted a crazy 5 hours this time round. To add to the misery, the queue at the toll plaza was also equally sick. Thank goodness for the wonder of a small card that sped things up a little. Despite all the crazy traffic, I have God to thank for allowing me to make it to the reunion dinner. (And also less one episode of firing from my grand-dad for being late :P)

The family...The family's the same old family minus my much missed grandma. Cousins are their usual self, cranky most of the time. Nephews have somewhat matured by are still a pain in the a55 at times. Aunties and uncles still the same bunch of fellers who ask... 'When you gonna finish studying ah??' Sheesh.. guess i'll have to answer the same question for another 8 yrs or so when i'm done with my postgraduate studies. As for grandparents, they just wanna enjoy their tea and mahjong. Not forgetting the pets, the 2 tortoises are a fatter than ever and trying to escape from the pond.

Chicks...Sorry, no chicks this year. I mean it !!

Angpow...If i recall, the KLSE closed at 914.01 points at 5.02 p.m. the day before CNY. That's a gain of 0.87 points from the day before. That means those people i visited should have gained some cash from their angpow investment whether contra or long term. Strangely, angpow collection didn't reflect the healthy signs of a rather bullish Malaysian economy that's predicted to hit the 1000 point mark again. Sob sob. Seems the 'kiam-siap' syndrome is evident again. Gonna do a retrospective study on this issue. Generosity has got to hit an all time high again. Btw, Angpow hunting season is still on, so all ye auntie and uncle... Please relieve your wallets and purses of those bling bling as the Angpow economist is on the prowl. Hehe. It's for a good cause of course. :P

Friends...Haven't gone visiting yet. Everyone's still back in their respective hometowns having fun i hope. As for those overseas, sounds like the Malaysian students society is the place to be at. Guess their having a dinner to celebrate CNY where ever they may be at.

House cleaning...Arghh. the dreadful part. Post CNY cleaning is always mad but someone's got to do it. :P

Aights. That's the CNY ramblings for now. Gong Hei Fatt Choy to everyone out there. Cheers!

Operation Ipoh 06

After getting a rollicking for leaving a 'helmut' hairstyle, i finally gave in and had to pay a lousy visit to the barber to get my 'helmut' trimmed. Sighs. So, while the scissors was chomping on the 'helmut', my handphone goes teet, teet... and the message writes, 'Boss, wanna go Ipoh tmr?'... The rest is a 'helmutless' but true story...

Pretty much unprepared for anything. We lads hit the road early on Friday morning and reached our destination around lunch time. Not bad considering we were driving at the speed of a wild duck charging aimlessly at tree. Arrival time at Phang's place was about 1150 hours. We were greeted by a rather a bunch of happy mutts. When i mean happy, they're really happy. Trust me.

Basically, Ipoh all about food, food, food and food plus nothing else to do. It's just food mania everywhere. Just drive past almost any row of shops and you'll surely see food. The variety of food is almost endless from the famous bean sprout chicken, sar 'hor' fun, 'hor' hee to dunno what other 'hor' you can think of. Else than that, there's also the 'hiong peng' and pomelos. Summary, Ipoh=Food, End.

After binging the entire day, we lads probably bore ourselves to wits. So next on our agenda was either to chill at the so calles Hartamas of Ipoh a.k.a Greentown or to go have some 'Karaoke' at some chinaman place called KBox. As it turned out, 3 'cultured' lasses decided to hang out in Greentown while we ah bengs headed to KBox. I've never bothered or even thought of going for Karaoke before this cos i always thought it sux and is a utter waste of cash and time. Strangely, Karaoke + Siow + Chee Wing + Phang + Cheng Hoong + Sooi + HL and EVEN Zen !!! = Crazy fun. I think it's the first time singing so out of tune sounded cool. Very much the ah beng outing i expected. Intense and Emo. Bleh.

Here I am sitting at the window, asking people what to do. The weirdest idea some lad had was to go buy pomeloes. I was like... 'Ah? pomelo?.. serious boh?' and Phang was like... 'U think pomelo cheap ah??'. After a thinking for a while, we finally figured out why the pomelo idea was suggested. As it turns out... near Gunung Rapat (just outside Ipoh) there are loadsa pomelo stalls mainly catering for 'tourists'. Any local from Ipoh will never buy pomelos from that place cos the traders there are pure rip-offs. So since business volume is low, what to do?? Must find way to get new customers. What's the strategy? I'm not sure which auntie came out with this rather 'brilliant' idea. I think it should win some award for ingenuity. These aunties dress like the harajuku ah lien to attract customers to their stalls. I don't know if it works. Either way, me and HL stuck to our plan of getting the pomelos from a wholesaler down town. That way we wouldn't get any nightmares thinking about weirdly dressed aunties selling pomelos. Eeek. Freaky.

The sayonara part of the trip was quite emo. Since it was probably the last time we fellers were gonna see Mr. Phang who has been the greatest and irreplaceable class rep there has ever been. Wish him all the best in all his future pursuits. And a reminder to him, your house is not a casino. :P

As for the return journey, Miss cuckoo a.k.a Yi wei was at her 'best' behaviour, while Zen and Yen Shi added to the live commentary on Cuckoo FM. I guess it was left to me and Hiang Liang to put on our ear plugs.

Regrets for the trip... I didn't get to eat my tiramisu cos i technically ran low on cash. Overall take on the trip... oklar, chun la.. veri chun.

Before i end this post. In memory of my uncle who passed away (Another reason why i had to go to Ipoh), my condolences to his family and may God be with them during this time.

Aights. End. God bless everyone!

Full throttle 2006

Woo Hoo!! It's another spankin new year. If i'm not mistaken, it's already the 3rd day of the year. Haha. Really blur. I think i gotta blame it on the hols. Although i've been busy with stuff, strangely i can't seem to keep track of the day and date. :P Not too sure why.. gotta sort out that problem.

So what's the Seremban plan so far..Us lads (CL, HL n me) have finally settled on getting a mini-mansion somewhere in the the countryside where the hills are green and a cow roams the plains. Yeah, were planning to start a clinic with a livestock and agriculture set-up so as to make ourselves self sufficient.

Our pet cow, Panda.. doing 'THE YAWN' and Panzer the tank

We've already purchased a German Panzer Tank to roam around the compound just in case there are intruders. The barn cum futsal court is already under construction and it will cost us a huge RM 2.5 million to set it up. So it'll be us three lads (sounds gay.. but were not), a cow, a panda, a turtle, a dog and maybe one rooster(our alarm clock) that will be livin' in this crib. Sounds weird eh? Of course its another crap story.... hehe.. boredla. What to do??

Okies.. well, thank goodness we fellers finally settled on getting tis rather nice house somewhere on the outskirts of Seremban. It probably qualifies to be on MTV Cribs (Edisi Malaysia.. minus the cars n the bling bling) with all the work put into it. Will try and get some pics and post it up soon. Fingers crossed. It's a pretty swell place, not too bad considering it's got a swimming pool, golf course, tennis court and loadsa other stuff nearby. Not too sure about the neighbours though. Distance wise, oklar...about 6km from uni, so gotta drive. That's basicaly the brief details about Casa St. S2 (weird name). Do drop by to experience the place yourself... for bookings, enquire within. Haha. Gonna get whacked by CL n HL for putting up tis post. :P.

As of now, i do believe most of the M203 fellers are either moving out of their apartments or alredi boarding a flight to their next destination in life. Kinda helped Grace with her stuff yesterday.. Man does she have loadsa stuff. Was kinda doubtful that all her stuff would be able to fit in the car at first. Surprisingly, with Mr. Macho man himself (Aravindra) helping out, everything fit perfectly into the Altis. Guess, Grace wasn't the only one, Daniel and Zen were also movin stuff into their own private lorry. Ganas... After being a carrier boy, i had to be chauffeur to Miss Chew herself. haha. Since she was running late, i did understand that she was panicking. Thank God we managed to reach in time. Was really cool to see all her friends from Church to come see her off as well. Aww...hehe. After that.. bye bye. :(

What else was in the agenda? Lol. Strangely, i had to get my bro enrolled into HELP (Still dunno why they call the place HELP... maybe the students do need HELP). It was a typical registration day... all the small lads looking out for chicks and the machas dressed up as if they were gangstas from the Bronx.. the chinaman all dressed ah beng style arriving in their pimped up proton satrias. So once we got the enrolment done... did some sightseeing around the college. It seems like HELP is a college stuck in a series of underground tunnels. Reminds me of some underground war bunker. Strange. Surprise of the day...dadadada... I saw none other than our very Miss Cuckoo's a.k.a Goh Yi Wei's pic on some ad in the college. She was a top performer in 'A'-Levels.. hehe. So Yi Wei, no more excuses for getting A's in Aberdeen. Haha.

Aights.. gotta go run some errands and become postman now. Ciaoz. Cheers!
