Saturday, January 14, 2006 Operation Ipoh 06 After getting a rollicking for leaving a 'helmut' hairstyle, i finally gave in and had to pay a lousy visit to the barber to get my 'helmut' trimmed. Sighs. So, while the scissors was chomping on the 'helmut', my handphone goes teet, teet... and the message writes, 'Boss, wanna go Ipoh tmr?'... The rest is a 'helmutless' but true story... Pretty much unprepared for anything. We lads hit the road early on Friday morning and reached our destination around lunch time. Not bad considering we were driving at the speed of a wild duck charging aimlessly at tree. Arrival time at Phang's place was about 1150 hours. We were greeted by a rather a bunch of happy mutts. When i mean happy, they're really happy. Trust me. Basically, Ipoh all about food, food, food and food plus nothing else to do. It's just food mania everywhere. Just drive past almost any row of shops and you'll surely see food. The variety of food is almost endless from the famous bean sprout chicken, sar 'hor' fun, 'hor' hee to dunno what other 'hor' you can think of. Else than that, there's also the 'hiong peng' and pomelos. Summary, Ipoh=Food, End. After binging the entire day, we lads probably bore ourselves to wits. So next on our agenda was either to chill at the so calles Hartamas of Ipoh a.k.a Greentown or to go have some 'Karaoke' at some chinaman place called KBox. As it turned out, 3 'cultured' lasses decided to hang out in Greentown while we ah bengs headed to KBox. I've never bothered or even thought of going for Karaoke before this cos i always thought it sux and is a utter waste of cash and time. Strangely, Karaoke + Siow + Chee Wing + Phang + Cheng Hoong + Sooi + HL and EVEN Zen !!! = Crazy fun. I think it's the first time singing so out of tune sounded cool. Very much the ah beng outing i expected. Intense and Emo. Bleh. Phang (Centre) with his mum and dad ![]() Phang, his 3 wives, his boss, his boss and another boss ![]() The family portait ![]() Wing Ko, the Ipoh mafia boss ![]() Phang and his 3 wives, WeiWei, LuLu and ShiShi ![]() Here I am sitting at the window, asking people what to do. The weirdest idea some lad had was to go buy pomeloes. I was like... 'Ah? pomelo?.. serious boh?' and Phang was like... 'U think pomelo cheap ah??'. After a thinking for a while, we finally figured out why the pomelo idea was suggested. As it turns out... near Gunung Rapat (just outside Ipoh) there are loadsa pomelo stalls mainly catering for 'tourists'. Any local from Ipoh will never buy pomelos from that place cos the traders there are pure rip-offs. So since business volume is low, what to do?? Must find way to get new customers. What's the strategy? I'm not sure which auntie came out with this rather 'brilliant' idea. I think it should win some award for ingenuity. These aunties dress like the harajuku ah lien to attract customers to their stalls. I don't know if it works. Either way, me and HL stuck to our plan of getting the pomelos from a wholesaler down town. That way we wouldn't get any nightmares thinking about weirdly dressed aunties selling pomelos. Eeek. Freaky. The sayonara part of the trip was quite emo. Since it was probably the last time we fellers were gonna see Mr. Phang who has been the greatest and irreplaceable class rep there has ever been. Wish him all the best in all his future pursuits. And a reminder to him, your house is not a casino. :P As for the return journey, Miss cuckoo a.k.a Yi wei was at her 'best' behaviour, while Zen and Yen Shi added to the live commentary on Cuckoo FM. I guess it was left to me and Hiang Liang to put on our ear plugs. Regrets for the trip... I didn't get to eat my tiramisu cos i technically ran low on cash. Overall take on the trip... oklar, chun la.. veri chun. Before i end this post. In memory of my uncle who passed away (Another reason why i had to go to Ipoh), my condolences to his family and may God be with them during this time. Aights. End. God bless everyone!
