Friday, July 28, 2006 Mayday After doing some retrospective thinking, it seems for the past half a year things have been rather wayward or in some sense tragic. There's only one question... WHY??? WTF is wrong??? Even my blog now looks more like an MCA complaints bureau notice board. Pretty strange innit? The past week hasn't been to good. Not for me but for my close friends. Sometimes i wonder why some things have to take place when it could have been so much better if things just stayed normal. I guess it's pretty true that we kinda take things forgranted till things are taken away from us. As for friend number one who incidentally is my housemate... he got involved in an accident on Sunday. No one would expect someone like him to get into an accident. He's probably the safest driver in my house. I was kinda shocked to hear about the car crash. Thankfully he wasn't hurt. Unfortunately his car is kinda in bad shape as he crashed pass a road fence and went down a hill. Strangely, he finds the accident a joke and even told me about the coolness of having an airbag blow up in front of your face. As of now, i've got to be his driver for the remainder of the semester. We now realize the importance of having a car. LOL. All's not too bad though, as he managed to borrow a beat up Kancil just in case he really needs a car. Problem is, he plans to take it 'drifting'. Can a Kancil drift?? As for friend number two who is my partner for research... she found out that she has some serious health problems and may have to stop uni for a year. Stopping uni due to a disease definitely indicates the severity of the disease and it's really sad to see someone so young have to suffer like that. As she's going to have to take sabbatical from uni work, that would mean i would have to carry out the research on a solo basis while everyone else has a partner to help them out. Kinda regret the times when i kinda complain about the way she does some things. Now that work is solo, having a partner isn't so bad afterall. Sighs. As for non friend related issues on tragic events... Ruud Van Nistelrooy has left ManYoo for 'the best team in the world' a.k.a Real Madrid thanx to the senile madness of Alex Ferguson. Kinda wonder where will ManYoo find the goals now that a player of is caliber is gone. Again, you just wished he was still in ManYoo. Taking things forgranted ain't good. Speaking of that, i shouldn't be taking my weekend forgranted as I only have a few days before my surgery exam. :P LOL. Adios ! Friday, July 21, 2006 Status Headacheus It's Friday and strangely i'm back in KL earlier than expected. Got back on Thursday since i was supposed to help carry out some chores for the family. Strangely, i reached back a little late only to find that all the chores were done. That left me puzzled if rushing back from Snoozieland was really worth it considering i still had quite a lot of unfinished work to be done. I guess i took it as a blessing since the chores were probably done by my brother. Kudos and a big thanks to him if he got them done. Since that was settled, i got some time to finish up a bit on the remnant work (Still a long way from completing it :P) and get my much desired sleep. As for the weekend, to loadsa people, there's the college camp to look forward to. Me and my bro on the other hand had to forget the idea of going for the camp thanks to the anticipated arrival of our cousins from the land which supplies us with Maple syrup. Yup, Canada. In an unfortunate turn of events, our cousins decided to fly in a day late hence pushing all the activities we've planned a day later (technically 2 weeks later). Darn. After informing my bro about the change in plans, we just stared at each other like 2 ah bengs in denial. Next on the agenda was to activate plan B. Activation of plan B would be asking ourselves... 'Should we go for college camp?' or rather 'Can we still go for college camp?'. As of now... the answer is either yes or no and that depends on whether registration is still open. Headache!!!! Sunday, July 16, 2006 Vortex 45 minutes just flies by and before you know it, you're home away from home. That's how I describe my weekly journey back to Snoozieland from good old KL. 45 minutes can be horrendously long or miraculously fast depending on how you spend it. There are times when you just wished the journey was shorter and there are also times when you just wished that the journey could go on and on. A journey back with a bunch of friends really makes a lot of difference. We could go on talking about almost anything under the sun and crack insane jokes at random. These occasions are those you would like to have as they could go on and on, making life totally awesome. A journey alone can also be equally good as it provides an avenue to pray and just reflect on things that have happened thus far. As i drove back today, I don't know why i just decided to just turn off the radio although the music on the airwaves wasn't too bad. The silence and just the sight of cars passing by in the darkness of the night just made it surreal. A brief moment of reflection just did the trick. It just reminded me of how important God has been in the helter-skelter life that i live. It's an honest fact that the past half a year has been really tough and excrutiatingly painful. But yet when I look back at things, even through the lowest points that i was in and when there was no one to turn to, there was always God who would reach out and provide hope despite the rather bleak outlook. Just taking the time to pray and thank God for all His grace and mercy just rocks. It really adds zest to life when you know there's a God that cares and wants nothing but the best for us. As I was praying, the passage of Psalm 43:5 really made a lot more sense..... Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Just hope it would serve as an encouragement to all those out there who are feeling down and out. I guess that verse did the trick for me. As for the week ahead, just hoping for another great and fruitful week. Kinda anticipating the visit to MV Doulos with Hiang Liang and the other lads. There will be a talk given by some medical personnel on board the vessel on Tuesday night. Hopefully it would be of great use to us future aspiring docs who hope to one day serve in missions. Then there's of course YC College camp which will be starting on Friday. It's kinda unfortunate that I can't go but for those who haven't signed up, please go sign up. I'm pretty sure it will rock. As for me, i'm anticipating the arrival of my cousin from Canada who i haven't seen for a pretty long time. Hopefully we'll get to resume our crazy KL nite life adventures... ah beng style of course minus the knives this time round. :P Aights till the next post.. adios! Friday, July 07, 2006 Sponge Bobbed In most government hospitals, lads and lasses below 16 years of age usually get admitted to the paed wards. However, sometimes there are exceptions. Weird ones that is... While going about with my rather early morning routine random clerking sessions, this weird lad around 15 years of age started smiling at me with almost no teeth other than his 2 front teeth. The only thing that lad reminded me of was sponge-bob square pants. I'm still not quite sure why the heck was he smiling at me for such a freagin long time. I was just hoping he wasn't gay. Despite my usually 'serious', no-emotion, no nonsense look (Do I look that all the time??... Seems it's scaring the patients :P)that i had during that time he was still smiling. That was something unusual as patients usually just try to hide their face whenever i greet them thanks to my 'seriousness'. Since he looked rather friendly and unfazed by my 'serious' look, i thought... ok, why not just go clerk this friendly lad. As usual, i introduced myself and asked the lad what his name was. The introduction process went well and his mum was really happy someone came and talked to him cos none of the students really dared or bothered to chat up the lad other than a few other guys from my group. I was about to find out why. As usual, I usually greet a patient with a smile and a firm handshake provided there no canula on the right hand. So.. i smiled back and offered the lad a handshake. So what happened?? I'm still not sure if the lad was 'french' or a freagin gay but he shook my hand and kissed it. His saliva was all over the dorsum of my hand. I was like... What the ****??? To add to the moment of madness, 2 of my classmates standing next to me when that happened. I think they're teeth nearly fell out like the lad's ones as they couldn't stop laughing. They were definitely like 2 gundus high on heroine after witnessing such a grotesque scene. Even the lad's mum was dumbstruck. As of now... i'm still washing my hands with soap, alcohol, thinner and whatever disinfectant i can find. In summary, no more handshakes with lads who smile with 2 teeth... YUCKS!!!! Monday, July 03, 2006 Crestfallen Man is it hot here today in Seremban. The weather here has been rather weird. Nights with thunderstorms but days with ultra hot weather just seem unusual. Went to Port Dickson this morning for the normal SOPD sessions. Not too sure why, i think i was at my blurrest self today. When DK asked me if fat was solid or liquid, i said solid. So is a lipoma solid or liquid? Again i said fluid. He was like.... What in the world is wrong with students nowadays. I think he should be referring to me by the way he said that. What the heck was i thinking....? Probably have a few screws that need tightening up there. Haih. To add to the blurness, it's weird to suddenly feel really empty inside. Not sure whats the missing. Still thinking and wondering. Weird day.... Sunday, July 02, 2006 Danielissimo Another great weekend just passes by... KL rawks more than ever. The week before was superb as well. Witnessing surgical procedures one after another just really makes my interest in this field increase day by day. With really nice and friendly lecturers and staff in the surgical department so far, the entire experience has just been absolutely a blast. Though hours may be long and calls may go way into the night, the enjoyment of being able to do what you appreciate most just makes everything so much more worth it. Just hope things continue to be this good for the weeks ahead. SURGERY here we go!! A weekend with the CG fellers was great as well. Though the lads plans to hit the bowling lanes didn't materialise, the crazy shouting and commenting on football matches out did everything. According to Christian, the lad in the DIGI advertisment sounds a lot like me... the one which goes.."Oi, i think my grandmother can kick the ball better than that la!" or sumthing like that. Still wondering if it's true. To add to the whackiness of the weekend, there was a power cut in my housing area for the entire Saturday afternoon. That pretty much left my studies hanging and me out to dry and scratch my head wondering what i should do. I guess my life is pretty mundane and boring. If i'm not studying, i'm probably staring at the wall doing nuts. Thankfully the power got back in the evening and studies resumes for a record 30 minutes. Woohoo! That was pretty long. A night out with at Marko's to watch the England V Portugal match was a great way to end the day. Portugal won and Ronaldo scored. That just made my day. Definitely a moment to be savoured. Kinda sorry for Marko and Hawc. The way Marko bowed down to the TV hoping Lampard will score was just too amusing to watch. Never imagined him doing something that mad just to see Lampard score. Sundays are one of those days which leave you with mixed feelings. It's the beginning of a new week but the end of a weekend. To add to the paradox of things, technically we're supposed to be eager and enthusiastic about being able to enter into His presence again with our fellow lads and lasses in Christ. Unfortunately, I'm usually half asleep on Sunday mornings. Something I honestly admit. But... things weren't too bad today. Lotsa lads looked half dead thanks to a crazy world cup match between Brazil and France. Finally felt a sense of belonging. Haha. Anyways, the message preached was pretty relevant today. It is said that to live a life that is pure and undefiled seems almost impossible or maybe even impossible nowadays. Today's sermon by Pastor DB on Daniel was sure good and practical. I believe it makes a lot of sense especially being a Christian student of this day and age. After taking some time to reflect back on what Pastor DB spoke about, I kinda questioned myself on the many times i've let God down. The question of keeping myself pure and in the right state of things before God makes me feel really like crap as i've really messed up on so many occasions. I admire the way Daniel abided by God's priniciples in choosing not to defile himself although it was definitely not going to make many people happy during his time. I wish i had a stand like that, I am still hoping. I can only conclude that if i'm going a live a life that is pure and undefiled, i'm definitely gonna need Him more than ever. Something to think about for sure... Aights.. it's Port Dickson Hospital tommorow morning. Gotta hit the sack. Adios! |
