Sunday, June 26, 2005 Purpose It's now the second week of the Purpose Driven Life thing which is going on in church. With all the hype and stuff, i think it's great that everyone is being enthusiastic about it and it has been great to see the church being united and coming together to be part of this drive. Today's memory verse challenge was the first of the many events to be held in succession in the weeks to come. We were required to memorise 30 memory verses in order to progress to the next round. Sounds crazy innit? I think patho sounds much easier now that i've completed the first round. :P Despite the lucrative competition prizes being the main attraction, some of us actually sat down and to took some time to think if all this was really good or just something that would lead to nothing. We all did agree on some grounds that memorising verses would in some ways edify us spiritually if we took the time to meditate on them. But the question that stood out was whether it really mattered if we knew each verse word for word. From what we've learned, meditation, insights and application are essential to knowing God's purpose for our lives when we read His word, but does it really matter that we have to know each word by heart as there are a million and one translations of the Holy Bible out in the market today. Does it really matter? Answer : Probably it's good to knowla but again... i dunno. Well, as Weng Tang says, we lads have the potential to score 100% for the quiz but the probability in that happening is almost 0.0001.:P At the end of the day, i think it's just absorbing the principles of wanting to know what is God's purpose for our lives that matters. We as humans have only got one life and i think it would be great to know God's purpose for each and every one of our lives. That's something that we all have to seek God for as the freagin PDL book would only serve as a guide to how we should live out that purpose. As for the life a of a doc, as we all know, nothing comes easily in life and we have to work for it. Our purpose as docs (As for now.. not yet.. hopefully i will be in another 3 yrs) is basically to care for people and well... bla bla bla as mentioned in the hippocratic oath. But as a doc progresses on to become a specialist... mamma mia, boy to they get pampered like mad (Of course docs deserve it in some way, afterall, we work like mad 24-7). Sponsored trips to conferences, free food and goodies.. man. It totally rocks. Anyways, my head's just starting to dream again. Still got a freagin long way to go. Got to pass End Of Sem 5 exam first. :P Here's a pic of a 'Paediatric sized' Starbucks which i got from a Paeds conference recently. Pretty cute innit?.. Small is the size but power it yields. And yeah, it was free (Not for me though). :P ![]() Well, in order to get my next free cup of starbucks coffee from a conference, be it a paeds or hopefully ORTHO-paed-IC conference, i better get back to studying. At least now i have the motivation to study. I can see FREE FREE FREE Starbucks...Yum yum yum. Adios people. Back to the land of Davidson's, Harrison's and Robbin's. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 Drive It's been 3 days since i first started my GP posting. But it's been a freagin week since i was in KKB. KKB wasn't too bad at all. We lads probably had the time of our lives, afterall, it's the final installation of the 'KKB trilogy'. Mornings in the sleepy hollow town were sorta dreadful for some due to hangovers from the crazy bbq sessions we had during the nights. But else than that, i have to say that it was a pretty cool trip especially when i was stuck in Group D where some of the crazier people were in. Agenda for day one in KKB was helter-skelter. Our bbq plans when up in smoke when the lasses of Grp D failed to buy food to bbq for the night when they were in the supermarket. The lads still can't figure out how absent minded the lasses were after we had told them that there was going to be a bbq and all they needed to do was to buy the food while the lads would settle the charcoal and booze. So what did the lasses do instead?? Buy shampoo and mineral water. The lads are still laughing at their actions. Anyways, i still find it a real joke. :P As for the other lads, some were left fuming cos the bbq was off. We could have probably used them to ignite the fire. :P Second day was pretty much routine stuff, except, i got to clerk a pretty weird case. Here in front of me was a witty young lad. About the height of a hobbit. Twinkle eyed and pretty harmless looking. The minute i started my history taking.. I think i finally found my match in KKB in terms of playing pranks. This young lad was one heck of a joker. Still can't imagine that he was sick. Jus imagine if he was well.. He'll probably he a handful. Gotta give the lad credit for being such a fun patient to have though he has gone thru so much crap in the past weeks with the medication and worries. Hope he's done and well soon. After lunch, usually the brain starts to get lethargic and restless. That was when i had nothing better to do and suddenly thought of going fishing. FISHING??? yeah fishing. Cos i saw that Chong Han was equally bored, i asked him if he was up for it. Without thinking twice he agreed. That was my first fisherman recruit for the day. The rest is history with Jan Hoong and Daniel following suit later. After the afternoon ward sessions. We left looking for the 'harmless, small, demure and cute looking' pond that Sister Rita spoke about. Based on her description, it was a pond outside KKB with loadsa people fishing in the evenings, a very nice place an ideal for kids. Crazy!! Upon driving out of KKB, we hardly saw any ponds around until I turn to my right. Darn. It was a freagin giant lake. That was no pond. It was an old tin mine. Well, no complaints. Me and Chong Han got straight down to business while the rest scratched their heads wondering if these to jokers were for real about wanting to fish in the 'pond'. After getting the 'rods' done up, walla, we just tried our luck besides getting laughed at by the villagers nearby after they looked at out 'rods'. It looked stupid but it definitely did the job. The lads squatted at the edge of the lake like some ah peks trying to sell VCDS for about 10 freagin long minutes without a catch. It was getting boring since all our rods weren't tugging. Suddenly, Jan Hoong's line got a tug and walla, our first catch of the day. This was probably the only time you would get to see Jan Hoong jumping in ecstacy like a small kid. Pretty much an euphoric feeling. Since he got his fish, i guess i had to try. Within a minute, mine came and within the next ten minutes, Chong Han got 2. Not bad at all since we were all amateurs. The weirdest thing the lasses did was to name the fishes based on the size. First we had Hiong Chin then Jeremy and finally Siow Yee Lian. Weird. Too bad we couldn't continue on with our fishing exploits cos it began to rain. The Fish ![]() Our last respects to the fish before it dies in the fire ![]() The bbq pit with our jacket potato in it ![]() Having fun burning food ![]() After getting our fish and food, bbq was next. This time everything went to plan as the lads bought the food and got the fire started. Ambience was cool and the weather was perfect. A great night of chilling out. A great preparation for the next day. The 3rd day was probably our funniest. Went to KK in Serendah only to get a hostile reception and eat breakfast. Our next plan was to head to Genting Highlands since we had nothing better to do after clerking the patients. I guess we had a great time 'chilling' out there. Yi Wei could probably go on and on based on her exploits in the casino in which she(or the group) won a measly 25 bucks after playing the slots, while Hean Ping is finally a confirmed 'hard core' gambler after getting hooked to the slot machine. :P. So where did the money go? -> A bottle of CLUB 99 whisky which looked like sumthing my macha friends would have used as an after shave rather than a drink. It's still whisky..like they say. Group D @ Genting ![]() I finally meet Doraemon ![]() Well, fourth day was a joke as well. Woke up only to find that i was the only lad who was sane enough to attend the the morning KK session. I guess the rest needed a rest after the 'wonderful' night. Knowing how blur i am, i drove to the old Ulu Yam maternity clinic only to find out that the session was in the new Ulu Yam clinic. Darn. It took me approximately 30 minutes to get to the rather 'Ulu' place. I guess all the fuss was well worth it. So happened on that day, the paeds clinic was open and the kids were all there. With those young lads running around mischieviously and lasses clinging tight to their mums ... it totally rocked. So is paediatrics on my mind?? We'll find out pretty soon. :P That was the exploits for KKB. Its strange to hear that of all people, Mr Rajen is stuck in the KKB jungle at the moment shooting some commercial. Darn. Just missed him by a week or else it would have been great after all.. who else calls KKB (Koo Koo Bird), which i still think sounds sick. :P Hopefully Rajen comes back alive. Aights. Till the next post. Sayonara. God bless to all ! Wednesday, June 01, 2005 Outback Oddball Aights, it's midway thru rotations. It hasn't been all that bad, but at times it's been a real waste of time due to the way that things have been scheduled. Not complaining though. As of now, i'm on the eve of embarking on my journey to KKB. I'm not quite sure what i'll be up to on my trip there this time round. Hehe... Guess it's for me to find out. As of the past few trips, it's been pretty routine. Waking up in snooze mode and dragging ourselves to the hospital to begin our rounds. After that we'll probably have lunch and drag ourselves back into the wards to clerk our patients. Then comes dinner at infamous Restaurant 99. It sounds so familiar. The great milestones of the previous trips i've had so far : 1. Finding out that one of my housemates actually drinks 5 litres of water in a single day !! 2. Washing the toilet 6 times before using it. 3. Playing 21 while studying about parasites. 4. Having someone come to our house to borrow a car at 2 in the morning. 5. Getting scolded by a neighbour for being too noisy. As for this trip, HOPEFULLY !!! some stuff that i've planned out will materialise: - witness the actual process of childbirth to see if i really have to become a plumber first if i would want to be an O&G specialist - see Rassam sing at pasar malam - Watch all 6 episodes of Star Wars in a 14 inch TV - Play futsal in the Nurse quarters - Jog round KKB town with my Bata shoes - Play snooker at the ah beng hideout on the outskrits of KKB town - Study with the lads playing the PS2 in front of me That's the list so far. Any more crazy suggestions? Hehe... Okies, that's it till i return from the jungle. Adios ! God bless to all mankind ! |
