Tuesday, February 27, 2007 Time It's already the end of February and it's time to to usher in March. 2 months have just gone by without taking much notice of it. Every minute now means so much more than it used to be. I just hope there will be more time. Time to see things through. Time to see a future. Time for God to reveal His promise. I really hope so. Wednesday, February 21, 2007 Boar-dom Once again, it's time for us Chinese to celebrate the much anticipated Chinese New Year. Gonna take this oppurtunity to wish everyone a very Prosperous and Happy Chinese New Year! Albeit having a typical chinaman mentality, i'm not one who suscribes to the Chinese zodiac beliefs. in some ways, this contradicts what a 'real' chinaman should be. Either way, i don't have a choice but to admit that i'm one of those lads born into the year of the Pig. Oinks! Wednesday, February 14, 2007 Retrospectiva So, sem 7 has finally ended. It's a real BIG blessing from God considering we can all be happy and smile cos it's also 'Bling bling season'. To explain how elated a student is after passing a freagin mad exam would take days to finish. In order to prevent this blog from being flooded with rather expected and boring comments, i'll just say that we're all happy and grateful to have done well. Moving on without looking back is what most ideallists always think. I don't quite agree with that theory as there's always something to learn from the past. From that, i infer that the reason why great leaders are who they are is because they study the past and try to learn something from it. Maybe that's why History is such a prestigious subject. Sounding rather philosophical but actually in some bull-crap kinda way, i've decided to review the past 2 semesters i've gone thru in Clincal school since this was the basis of the semester 7 examinations. Sem-6ix La la la la, we're in Clinical school. Yay, it's such a lovely place! (yeah rite... it's a lovely place to get tortured). We proceed to our various groups. Some get thrown into Surgery, others get an 'eye-opener' in Family Med whereas I got posted to the Internal Med fraternity. So much for self directed learning, it was like blind leading the blind in most instances but thankfully we have some really great lecturers who are willing to go the extra mile to help us with our work. I guess it was quite an 'experience'. Either way, everyone passed and we're all alive. Wow. I really had fun in internal med. No doubt i had a blast. God was good as He allowed me to start with internal med. I guess that laid the foundation for all my other postings as I had to know everything there was about medicine in just 7 weeks. A real miracle but a great experience. Next was fam-med. Without a certain dedicated lecturer who i have ULTIMATE RESPECT for, i think it would have been the most directionless 7 weeks i would have gone thru. To the ULTIMATE LECTURER, a big thanx. You is the man! He looks like Bruce Lee as well. What a plus point. As for the rest, i'm sorry to say that i do not have any constructive comments and I would rather not expound on it as it would really dirty my computer screen i wrote about it. Yucks... yeah that's how it is. Surgery rocked. Great lecturers with a desire to teach. For once you don't feel like a freagin headless duck walking around waiting to be shot although i still felt like a duck at times thanks to some rather quack patients who gave me some 'wonderful' histories which will definitely be stuck in my head for quite some time. Either way, surgery rocks. Sem-se7en For the opening part of this review, i would play the music that usually accompanies Frankenstein movies which open with those pipe-organs. Yeah, that reflects the mood when you enter sem 7. Suddenly you feel like there's fog all over the place and you really start to panic cos you see the end of a double barrel gun right in front of you glabella ready to go trigger happy and see you at the 'EXTINCTION VIVA' if you don't recite the entire Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine in less than 1 minute. Alright, that was lame but it does ring some bells when you enter sem 7. It's basically an indication for you to get your brain working for once. To start with, i got a wunderful and rather manic start with psychiatry. Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorders, Substance abuse. Loadsa theories and a freagin fat DSM IV TR manual to memorise. It was one really MAD but not BAD or SAD posting. I enjoyed it in some sense cos the lecturers were great people and so were the patients. I'm still sane till this point. After experiencing what a beautiful mind is all about. I finally met the one I love, cherish and hope to be with. It's none other than Orthopaedics. To have the responsibilty of being a group leader for the most ultimate posting made it even better. Simply a brilliant and beautiful subject. Bones, tendons, ligaments, screws, nails, plates... the list goes on. It's just mind blowing. It's just too great to describe. Got great hopes that i'll get to work in this department someday. Basically ortho surgeons just rock. Surprisingly i noticed they've got some similiar charcteristics too. All of them love performance cars, red wine, beautiful women and of course 'Screwing people'. I'm not saying i'll apply that principle to myself though it sounds pretty good. Once the euphoria of ortho was over. I landed in planet Zargus where it is under the jurisdiction of paediatricians. Here, what protects you from the ultra loud cries of an infant is just a rather stubby Doraemon or a rubber ducky. I think i didn't really fancy the posting at first. It was only after I finished the posting that I really appreciated the posting. Thanks to some senior who taught me how to study paeds. Kid's are really complicated beings, second only to women. Else than that, it's dangerous to stay in the kids ward. Finally, the only posting i hated so much not because it's boring but only because of one f*****g hospital doctor who has some vendetta against chinaman students. It's got to be obstetrics. All the IMU lecturers are great people. Really appreciate all that they thought us. It's a subject which requires lots of common sense but unfortunately we think too much at times and we can't really apply what we learn. It's nice to usher in a newborn as it symbolises hope and a new life. As a whole, i still don't quite fancy it. Sorry to my boss, who is surely the best obstetrician to all chinaman. As a whole, it's been a great experience. All glory to God for bringing us through the ups and downs of clinical school thus far. Got loads more to learn as eveyday is a learning process. As for the entire batch, M203 / C106 Rocks! Cheers! Tuesday, February 13, 2007 V day Yesterday, the torture of having to undergo 8 long OSCE stations was just completed. I'm still in awe that i'm still in one part after all the thrashing I went thru during those 2 hours of horrendous torture. Honestly, to God be the glory for allowing me to be still 'alive and breathing'. All i just wanted was some rest and yet all an idiotic useless insect wanted to do was to suck life out of my veins. That meant war for sure. Smacking a mosquito can be quite hard especially in a pitch dark room while trying to get some sleep after an extremely long day. As a result of that, I woke up looking like a panda bear which just got out of the bamboo forest only to get dressed up to go find out if my student id number was in the borderline VIVA list. Feeling rather groggy, I dragged myself along with my housemates to go find about the 'good' news. So it's the V day. First of all, it's the VIVA day. It's either you get into the much desired distinction VIVA list or the borderline VIVA list which no one wants to be associated with for sure. The stress of having to wait and wait and wait till the results come out really drain you of energy. I guess it wasn't too long before the list came out. Praise God once again. No one failed and there were 4 distinction VIVA candidates. Great news to start of a day for sure. Without God, there would be no way we would all have passed. Glory to Him once again. So what's with V again? Well... it's Valentine's day. A day when people celebrate their love for their 'other half' or loved ones. As of now, i guess this day doesn't really bear much significance to me. I used to be one who wouldn't care less about something like this. Strangely, i realised, there's definitely an empty feeling today while i just sat down with my cup of tea at lunch today. As i sipped the tea thru my straw, I just observed couples walking past. I just started to wonder when God will send me the right person. I guess as humans, we were made to have partners, partners that can share thoughts with you or more importantly be there when you need someone to relate to. Although we have something called Valentine's day, I seriously don't think you need just one day in a year to express your gratitude or feelings towards your love ones but rather, it should whenever it's possible. Oh well, i guess that emo mood comes in especially when these kinda times prop up. Still hoping.... Else than all that crap, it's really a joy to know that sem 7 is finally done and dusted with. I've got to thank God that I can now think about celebrating Chinese New Year with my family. Of course there's always lotsa bling bling to be collected out there. That's obviously the main reason why we look forward to CNY innit? Else than that... can't wait for Friday when the final results will be out. Till that moment arrives.... adios |
