Friday, June 23, 2006 Drifting... Yup, it's another week gone past just like that. A good one in many ways. Lots more positives than negatives to take from. My first week in surgery has been pretty interesting. Eye opening cases and really great and cooperative patients just really make life so much better even though things are still pretty dull and boring in Seremban. I guess there's nothing better to do than to just hang around in the hospital. Being able to follow up on patients from the time of admission till the time they're discharged has been pretty cool. At first the jitters of building rapport really makes you feel like a small lad meeting your new classmates on the first day of school. Striking up a conversation with a total stranger is never easy and is something not many people would do. Afterall, we've been taught not to speak and open up to strangers. I guess that is nullified in this instance when all you want to do is to try and build rapport with a person you will be managing and caring for in the next few days. Once the patient warms up to you, things more or less become less tense and you begin to see the patient opening up to you, at times even sharing their deepest thoughts with you. That really makes medicine so worth it. Over the next few days, dropping by every few hours to see their progress really makes you feel like a part of their family. Wishing them well and reassuring them just before they enter the OT makes you feel like you are going in hand in hand with the patient, supporting them all the way till they open their eyes again in the wards. At the same time, you start to wonder if the operation will be a success and if you'll ever get to talk to them again. Life is fragile and deaths do take place in the OT. When the patient gains consciousness after the procedure and being one the first people to speak to them after the operation is a rewarding experince. It's enlightening to even see patients joking about their operation after it's done. When the time comes for the patient to be discharged, that's when it all sinks in. A friend that you've become really close with leaves the hospital to resume their normal daily lives. Sometimes you wonder if you'll ever meet them again. But overall, it's a worthwhile experience. Something to think about... So much for life in Seremban, kinda back in good old KL for the weekend. Being able to attend CG again was cool. Hopefully i get to go regularly now that the schedules are more or less done up. Not sure why, but my insomnia problem is still lingering and it's now a record 5 months that i haven't a had really good nights rest. Probably my brain is telling me that it's time to practice for the mad-sleeping patterns in my future houseman days. So after CG and the World Cup match, me and my bro who was also strangely unable to sleep decided to go for a movie. Since we hadn't watched The fast and the furious : Tokyo Drift, we decided to watch it since all the ah bengs in town were raving about it. The show was probably the stupidest show we've watched thus far. The storyline was cacat to the max. Typical America Boleh show : Bad boy gets into trouble with someone, lands himself into deep s***, makes a deal to try and resolve things, super-hot chick and car becomes the prize. How stupid is that? Strangely, the American lad or 'gaijin' always wins while the Japs are left to lick the dust. It's like Rambo on wheels. Worse is, the show downright degrades women likening them to cheap objects, placing them on the line for a race that involves 2 gobloks who only know how to burn the road. No doubt the girls are pretty hot but the way they treat and portay them simply sucks. Although the show was utter crap, the cars were HOT!!! Souped up EVOs, RX-7s, RX-8s, 350zs, Skyline GTRs... the list just goes on. They just leave you drooling. The cars were the real stars of the show. No doubt about that. The 'Drift' scenes were cool but the crash scenes were even better. The star machines : Nissan Fairlady 350Z ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitsubishi EVO 9 ![]() Mazda RX-8 ![]() Mazda RX-7 ![]() While sitting in the cinema, if there was one thing i noticed before the lights went out was the fact that it was packed with peroxide-blonde ah bengs and fire-red frocked ah lians. It definitely confirms the fact that the show is an A class ah beng show. I searched high and low to look for some 'auntie' or 'uncle' but they were no where to be seen. The weird fellers in the cinema were these few 'mat motors' who were crapping away in malay about what they should do with the cars....'Apasal kreta tu tak guna boost?..laju sikit' and all kinds of crap. I mean, who would use Nitrous Oxide to 'drift'? It is used to do a 'sprint'. I bet if there was a hardcore ah beng in my seat, he would have started a 'pek yau' session and kicked them out of the cinema. Sometimes people just ought to keep their thoughts to themselves and just enjoy the movie. Anyways... it just makes me laugh. Till i got more crap to write about, Adios ! Sunday, June 18, 2006 Snoozieland Shrug... Time really flies and my week of hols are done and over. As of now, i'm back in the snoozy town of Seremban where life just seems so dull and lifeless. Nothing beats the comfort and warmth of home and life in KL. Just waking up to the smell of good food and the great time of chatting with my brother beats everything else. Though it's barely been half a year that i've been stuck in this dull town, i'm already starting to wonder how life will eventually be when i become a houseman or an MO. It's inevitable that i'll get posted somewhere in Malaysia, hopefully not in some 'Brokeback' town where life will be so sad if i just get stuck with a couple of lads. Yucks. Guess i shouldn't think about that for now... Aight, guess i just miss good old home and me pals in KL. For a week of hols, i guess there wasn't really adequate time to meet up with everyone in KL but it was definitely a great time meeting up with those i could. Watching a match and 'whacking' each other never seemed to fun. Playing futsal with childhood friends really made me wonder if i've been so distant from people due to what i do to the point that i've not even met some of them for years. Being able to speak to uni mates back at MMU also brings back fond memories of a really great bunch of pals that i have there. It's even better to hear that almost all of them are about to graduate soon. Simply euphoric. To be able to attend Friday night CG after such a long time was also really good especially when i didn't have to rush back from Seremban just to attend it. Meeting with pals back from Aussie was a nice sight. I wish that i could have done more stuff during the hols. I probably will have to leave that to my precious weekends which will definitely be back in KL from now on if possible. Well loadsa catching up to be done with me closest pals which i haven't had time to meet. For now, it's World Cup time.... gonna go catch a match before i knock off for the day. Aights, Adios!! Tuesday, June 13, 2006 Semi-Cooked Egg Aight aight... now that i have time, i'll put up some pics of the Convo. Actually kinda lazy put them cos as of now, i'm just half a doc... not quite there yet. so, it's just a small time convo for me. Despite all my explanation, some people have asked me umpteen times to put up some decent pics especially that of the convo. Furthermore,i guess the pics of late have been pretty grotesque. :P So here you go. Really sorry I can't put up all the pics cos there's just too many of them. Will just put up a few of the better ones that came out (Actually those of smaller resolution :P). ![]() Prof Richard and me... ![]() 2 Crazy Orthopaedic Freaks. Hopefully Ortho-surgeons in the near future. ![]() Mr. Raj 'Techie' Singh and the Ah Beng ![]() 2 Certified ah Beng semi-Docs... Justin and Me.. YEBENG!!! ![]() The carpool mob... Mr. Wingko ![]() The crazy woman with the most brilliant brain in the library.. Ai Ling ![]() I've got the GOLD MEDAL in my hands... Muahahaha. Too bad it's Shieh Ning's...Sheesh. ![]() Hang Tuah a.k.a Hani-Syam and Chinaman ![]() 3 Chinaman from Seremban... Chung Kuok Ren!!! Man... it's another 2 years before i'll get to snap pics like these again. The only bright side to it is that it'll be me as a Doc by then... Hopefully i'll make it with God's grace. :P Adios!! Sunday, June 11, 2006 GOAL!!! Ah.. it's the weekend again. To make things even better, it's a week off for me so i can watch the World Cup into the wee hours of the night. Woo hoo!! So far the matches have been pretty mundane else than the opener which was quite a cracker. Can't wait for Portugal, Brazil and Italy to kick off their campaign. At least with these teams, it's more likely that great football will be played and less time wasted on watching teams like England play boring football. Just hoping for Luca Toni, Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo to bring in the goals. At the end of it, you just wanna witness 'sexy football'. As for work and study, i'm glad the family med posting is over. It's definitely something I'm not so keen on pursuing in the near future. As for those who don't know what family med is all about, it's all about being a GP (The place to get your MC :p). Just can't wait to get to orthopaedics.... For now, it's gonna be general surgery for the next 7 weeks. I wunder how it'll be like. Maybe i could do an appendectomy if there's a chance. hehe. Just hoping... Aights... gonna wait for the next match. Adios !! Monday, June 05, 2006 Scrambled Yikes.. Exam in 3 days and i'm still blogging. Experiencing an overload of information to encephalon at the moment. Scrambled and frayed nerves to the max!! Actually blank at the moment. Probably go watch Spongebob squarepants. Adios! |
