Just Kidding!

Ahh... What a day. Sometimes waking up to a disastrous morning can lead to an extremely disastrous day. I was well aware of that this morning. Somehow I just didn't have any motivation to get things going. Either way, a new morning brings new hope, so i just had to leave all my problems behind and start the day.

Today marks the beginning of my paediatrics (paeds) posting. For those who do not know what paeds is all about, it's all about kids and the related health problems which they face. After a really enjoyable orthopaedics posting, it's natural that i'd expect paeds to be a totally different scenario altogether. So with an open mind and willingness to see what this entirely new posting is all about, i set off for my new journey into the world of kids.

As my Professor walked in this morning, there was just something different about the way he approached things. There is just a sense of uniqueness about paediatricians which i can't really explain. I really admire the way they approach things. Something i'd definitely like to learn and hopefully integrate into my practice. I kinda admire the way a rather well built man like Prof handles kids. There's just a blissful chemistry that he has with kids and strangely, it's not only him who has that touch, most of the other paed docs are just like that. That totally rocks.

Since this posting is all about kids, it's quite a normal tendency for us to regress a little and try to relive our childhood days. I'm not saying that i've done that but some of my classmates have decided to use 'infant-lingo' amongst themselves. I'm still kinda puzzled with their actions especially with a certain lad named Hanisyam who is acting rather weirdly, walking around with a white toy bear on his head while mumbling goo-goo-ga-ga at patients and his fellow classmates.

Hanisyam and his psychopath bear

I guess i'm not excluded from all the weird stuff that has been happening today. After lunch, us lads which included Jeremy, Shiva, Chee Wing and myself snuck off to some kiddo shop down town to get some squeeky toys after being reprimanded for not having at least one toy to bring to the wards. As weird as it gets, this is the first time i've ever been reprimanded for not having a toy in my life. I believe my fellow mates are also experiencing the same ordeal this time round. On arrival at the shop, according to Chee Wing, he sensed a return to his boyhood days after looking at all the bandai models, toy rifles and etc. I on the other hand was stuck looking at model cars while trying to find a squeeky toy for myself. At first, my plan was to get the old, faithful and iconic Rubber Ducky that we all know of. Unfortunately, at this particular shop, the Rubber Ducky was kinda small. I don't wanna be blamed for suffocating some lad courtesy of a swallowed 4 inch by 2 inch Rubber Ducky. Since there was no avenue for a rubber Ducky, we moved on to look for something else. Strangely, this shop sells alligators which looked like real ones but squeeked like a Rubber Ducky. At first, we were all quite keen on getting one but after some discussion, we felt it would probably only benefit us in scarring the daylight out of the girls in our class but not entertaining those little kids in the wards.

After all the crap we did in the shop, i found my sidekick and so did the other lads. It didn't take long for me to decide cos i just sorta took pity on a really pathetic and retarded looking toy which was like crying out "Come get me!!!". It also made squeeky sounds like a Rubber Ducky. So, what a bargain... A retarded Doraemon with a voice like a duck. Wow. I don't think i had a choice, so i grabbed it and just paid for it. Hence introducing :

RETARDO-MON

As retarded as it is, i've kinda developed a soft spot for it and so have the girls in the class. Too bad for me, it's getting all the attention and not me. As for the other lads, Chee Wing got himself one of those care-bears, Jeremy still went ahead with his Rubber ducky plan and also bought a care-bear (Hopefully none of the kids suffocate courtesy of his Rubber Ducky) and Shiva got an equally retarded Donald Duck. I'm really not sure why the toys at this shop are so retarded.

The real action begins tomorrow when we'll be hitting the wards. After meeting with some kids today, man... it's an incentive to go to the wards more often. The lads and lasses are just super cute. There's no doubt, children are a real blessing and gift from God.

Aights, back to work with my new sidekick. Adios!
